Two of international soccer’s top men’s national teams will square off at Huntington Bank Field on June 6 as part of the Road to 26 series.
The Brazilian national team is the most decorated in the history of the FIFA World Cup, with five tournament championships (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002) and two runner-up finishes (1950 and 1998). It is the only team to have participated in every World Cup and leads all nations with a record 76 wins in 114 matches played.
The Egyptian national team is Africa’s oldest and one of the continent’s most successful. Egypt has won the Africa Cup of Nations a record seven times. The team has made three appearances in the FIFA World Cup and was the first African and Middle Eastern team to play in the tournament.
Brazil and Egypt have met six times since 1960, with Brazil winning all six. They have not met since 2011.
Cleveland is no stranger to hosting big events. Last April, the city made history when the Columbus Crew hosted Inter Miami at Huntington Bank Field and set a new club attendance record (60,614). The crowd was also the largest for a non-NFL event at the home of the Cleveland Browns.
